He was not the real husband, nor father—who had disappeared for over a year, presumably lost in the woods. The man here was simply a passer-by (somewhat) who managed to fix the generator. Waking, the woman had mistaken him for her long-absent spouse.
I actually know the people who owned the house used by Frances O’Connor’s character, and went up there several times growing up. The scenery is even more incredible in person. Powerful movie, too!
Wow, then you must feel especially connected to certain settings of that film. I know, one has to watch the whole movie from start to finish to fully appreciate how well done this scene is.
